Becoming a Trustworthy Person (3)

Genesis 39:20-23
20 Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined.
But while Joseph was there in the prison, 21 the LORD was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. 22 So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there. 23 The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the LORD was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.

Proverbs 28:20
20 A faithful man will be richly blessed,
but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished.

1. When Joseph carried out his responsibilities rightfully, to be a faithful and trustworthy person before God and the people he served, he experienced great success. The Lord was with him.
2. Joseph still gave top quality work, even though he experienced unfair treatment to the point that he was demoted from his rank/position unjustifiably. The Bible makes no mention of him complaining, although I’m sure it must have hurt to be treated like that.
3. From today’s reading, I learn that faithfulness is looked upon with blessing from the Lord, while being eager to get rich will be punished, maybe because the motivation is wrong – selfish perhaps? Anyways, all I remember is do all things as if to God and not to man. Serve the Lord wholeheartedly because you love Him and the things He loves, not because you want the blessing. Ironically, when you do this, He will bless you greatly although that’s not what you’re pursuing. You’re pursuing Him. So it’s a win-win situation. :)
